Jesus healed me! – Annabel’s Story

I grew up in a non-Christian family. The only time I learnt about Jesus was at school, both in primary and high schools. One day, I was talking to my cousin who introduced me to Lifehouse Church.

Me and some of my funny friends at church!

Not long after, my cousin and I went together to Lifehouse. At church, I met lots of great friends who truly cared and supported each another. Through this church, I experienced so much love.

I felt so loved at church

Before I met Jesus, I suffered from depression. I even contemplated suicide and even stayed in hospital for a month. People say that God may close one door but He will open up a window. This was so true.

Getting baptised was life changing!

After my hospital stay, I felt an incredible sense of the love of God and I felt that He was healing me. My doctor even said to me that I was able to reduce the amount of medication I was taking! I used to have a blank face all the time but now I am always smiling! I am so grateful to Jesus.

Jesus gave me a reason to smile!

God has brought me so many changes and I have learnt to be grateful. Even during challenges, I will now look for something good out of the situation. I believe that God wants me to experience more of Him in my life so that I will be able to use this to help people around me who may be going through a similar experience.

I love my lifegroup girls!

Lifehouse Christmas Comedy

Christmas was so much fun at church this year. So many people felt the love and joy from Jesus! More than 100 new friends came and joined one of our 5 Christmas services, and 20 made decisions to invite Jesus into their life!

This year our creative team put on a short Christmas comedy production. It was hilarious! The story was about a rich (and very greedy!) jewellery shop owner, called Mr Chan who thought that Christmas was all about making money.

Chan Tai Fook!

He worked his staff to the bone and wouldn’t give them any time off to be with family and friends over Christmas!

No time off when there is money to be made!

He would do anything to get a sale and only cared about the money he could make out of Christmas.

“This ring will make you look slimmer!”

But after he lost all his jewellery in an armed robbery, he spiralled into a dark depression. This would be the worst Christmas of his life!

Getting robbed by Santa and Rudolph…

Luckily for him, two of his most loyal employees were Christians! They knew the true meaning of Christmas wasn’t about money, but about hope in Jesus! They invited him to their church, Lifehouse Hong Kong, for the Christmas eve service.

An emotional Mr Chan gets invited to church

It was there that he heard about the message of Jesus, and how he had come to give the world hope. He saw all the joyful people who loved Jesus at church. It gave the rich store owner hope too!

With a new joy in his heart, he quickly invited Jesus into his life. He finally understood the joy of Christmas! It was JESUS! He was so happy he came to church.

It was a great Christmas week at Lifehouse Church. Thank you to all who volunteered to make Christmas special in one of our church services. We pray you will be blessed this Christmas and New Year season! Love Lifehouse Hong Kong.

How can I hear God’s voice?

As Christians we believe that God is speaking good things to us all the time. We just have to learn to listen to His voice!

When you know what God wants for your life, you have a strength and a peace about you that defies the circumstances you may be going through. You could be facing a health issue, financial pressure, relationship difficulties or trouble at school or work, but you can overcome because you know that God is leading you to better things!

How do we learn to know God’s voice?

So how can we learn to hear Gods voice? It’s actually easy!

There are many ways that God can speak to us, but one of the main ways is through his word, the bible. Instead of speaking to our ears, He speaks to our hearts. When we open the bible (or open our bible app), we can think of it like a personal letter from God, to us. Full of unlimited wisdom and keys to a life of victory. But added to that is also a loving father who is longing to communicate with us. This makes the bible so exciting! Growing and knowing Jesus more!

At Lifehouse church we teach a very simple way to read the bible and hear from God. It’s called “Journaling”! Journaling is daily reading some scriptures (however many is up to you) and then writing down a few points about what you feel God is saying to you. It’s simple, powerful, and only takes 5 minutes (of course you can spend longer if you like).

In Lifegroup we share one of our Journals from the previous week

Why is journaling so good? Well one of the challenges of hearing from God, is not so much in the hearing, but in the remembering!  If God says something amazing, but by next week we have forgotten it, it doesn’t help us much! Journaling solves this by recording what God has said. God often speaks in patterns and themes, and by writing it down you can see the theme God is speaking to you over the previous week/s. That’s really exciting! If you don’t write it down, you might miss the theme…

When you go to journal, just say a quick prayer and ask God to speak to you through His word. Then make sure to write down how it applies to your own life. Make it personal. Be honest with God, and let His word bring healing and life into your situation!

So how do you journal?

Here’s a good way to start (but you might develop your own style as you go):

Theme: (leave this till you’ve finished journaling and fill it in at the end)

Scripture: (eg Matthew 28: 19-20)

Application: (few points here of how it applies to you)

Key Thought: (sum it up with a ‘one-liner’)

Prayer: (1 or 2 sentence prayer)

The above is not the only way, but it’s a great place to start!

We all grow stronger through hearing God’s voice

If you miss a day of journaling, don’t feel guilty, just start again. It’s not a rule, it’s part of a life-giving relationship with Jesus!

Why don’t you try the ‘1 month challenge’? Try journaling for a month, and see how God speaks to you. I know it will bless your life like it has mine!

How Jesus helped my anxiety – Renz’s Story

Coming from a Catholic family, I never doubted Jesus’ existence. But I’ve always believed that I was never good enough for Him.

When I graduated from high school, similar to many others, I was lost on what to do with my future. And as time passed by, anxiety welcomed itself into my life. At first, I thought that it was a normal occurring to be so anxious nearly most of the time, since everyone worries about their future, so I just ignored it and relied on positive quotes online to get me through. But it was always temporary as my anxiety never really went away.

School was a dramatic experience haha.

It was around this time that I was invited to Lifehouse Hong Kong by a friend! I immediately decided to plant myself at church.

At church, I learnt how to journal (read the Word and reflect on what God is saying) from going to Lifegroup. I decided to reach out to Jesus and did my best remembering bible verses of His promise for us and how He will never forsake us. Because of this I got through a very tough situation as I felt His peace wash over me and realised I don’t need to be perfect!

Lifehouse Church is full of amazing people!

A few weeks later, I was suggested a job that was related to the course I was studying – something that I’ve been praying about for the longest time. And my anxiety slowly started to disappear.

Jesus has filled the largest hole in my life! Before all this, I just accepted that my future was already going in the wrong path and I had no choice but to wander aimlessly along it. How wrong I was! I would never have been to where I am today, and gone through the tough times, had it not been for Jesus.

Stronger with Jesus!

So if you are going through something similar – or even going through something much more worse – seek Jesus! You may not get healed right away, and that’s okay, it took quite a while for me too, but you will get there. And once you are there, it won’t always be sunshine and rainbows – the storm that haunts us will come back again. But that too will dissipate, as all other times, because I believe that we go through those situations for us to grow in faith and hold on to hope for Jesus.

I am stronger now because of Jesus, and I learned to enjoy the present and not think so negatively about the future, and dismiss the thought that it will be a nightmare. So I want to encourage you to open up your heart to Jesus! He will move in so many unexpected ways for you to see, and not get lost, in the path He has made for you. He is so much more than what we can imagine!

Iron on the inside: Growing through life’s trials

On Sunday I shared about how God can use the really challenging moments in our lives to build strength into us. I believe that God can use the worst trial, for His glory, and can even bring about a great outcome for our future.

hong kong

I’ve found in life that sometimes bad things can happen to good people. Joseph in the bible found himself in a situation like that. He had some big dreams from God, but before anything good could happen he was sold into slavery from his own family. Then to add insult to injury, he found himself in jail for something he didn’t do! Pretty unfair!

Psalm 105:16-19 NLT
He called for a famine on the land of Canaan, cutting off its food supply. Then he sent someone to Egypt ahead of them- Joseph, who was sold as a slave. They bruised his feet with fetters and placed his neck in an iron collar. Until the time came to fulfill his dreams, the LORD tested Joseph’s character.

Now if you know the end of the story, Joseph was used powerfully by God to save all of Egypt. But was sitting jail with the years were ticking by, it would of been easy for him to give up hope on those dreams!

But Joseph didn’t doubt Gods calling on his life! Instead he pressed into God and got a new strength on the inside… He got iron in his soul!

Psalm 105:18 AMP
His feet they hurt with fetters; he was laid in chains of iron and his soul entered into the iron.

Pastor Rod (our Senior Pastor) shared this verse with some of us recently, and I love this picture! Instead of the trial breaking Joseph, it gave him a new place of strength in God! His trial taught him things, and developed in him a strength of character, a faith in God, that comfortable times could never have produced!

I think for this reason, the bible verse below makes a lot of sense.

James 1:2-4 NIV
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

Perseverance… another way of saying a ‘gutsy-ness’ in your soul!

lifehouse church

So be encouraged. If you are facing a trial, maybe God is doing a great work inside of you and preparing you for great things to come! Keep pressing into Jesus for strength though journaling, prayer, and worship. And make sure you are around encouraging, faith-filled people that are going to speak life over your situation. Thats what church and Lifegroup are all about!

Lifehouse HK’s 7th Anniversary!

Lifehouse HK’s 7th Birthday!

Last weekend we celebrated 7 years of Lifehouse International Church in Hong Kong! It was such an amazing day.

We had 3 powerful services with our Senior Pastor, Rod Plummer, all the way from Tokyo to preach for us. It was so inspiring!

Packed out 11am service!

Ps Rod shared about how we should have ‘expansive’ thinking by not being bound by life’s challenges which can easily lead us to ‘poverty thinking’. Lets be a church full of people who are full of faith and live big lives for Jesus!

Before the 2:30pm service we had a neon party. Everyone was glowing! Lots of new friends came to church from the party. They loved it!

At the NEON party!
Joyful praise in the 2:30 service

Throughout the day we had many new people come and join one of our services, over 50! So many amazing people in church, and 13 people made decisions to start following Jesus. The best birthday present!

Hong Kong
Lots of new friends

Here is a 3 minute video showing some of the history of Lifehouse HK throughout the last 7 years. (Sorry if you didn’t make it into the video! Too many amazing people and memories to fit into 3 mins!)

It was such a special day. So much happened. But we are believing that this is just the beginning of what God is going to do in our church and for our friends churches in Hong Kong! The best is truly yet to come!

What song is your heart singing?

Lifehouse Hong Kong worship

Did you know that your heart can sing?

Eph 5:18-19 NLT
[18] Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, [19] singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts.

The bible says that we should make melody in our hearts to Jesus! This is an exciting way to live our lives out of a place of praise and thanksgiving everyday!

Our hearts have a song that shapes our life
Proverbs 18:14 MSG
[14] A healthy spirit conquers adversity, but what can you do when the spirit is crushed?

At Lifehouse Hong Kong, we want to have a healthy heart! One that can face lifes challenges with the strength of Jesus and overcome!

So how do me make sure our heart is singing the right song? Focus on Jesus!

Lifehouse church hong kong
What you focus on will determine your heart song
Philippians 4:6-9 NLT
[6] Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. [7] Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. [8] And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. [9] Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me-everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.

Jesus has given us so much to sing about. He saved us, blessed us, gave us a wonderful church family, heals us….so much to be thankful for!

But what about in the hard times? How can we stay encouraged and keep singing the right heart song?……

Journaling! At Lifehouse church, we love the bible! The word of God can change your life! But you have to also choose to believe the word! Add faith to what God is saying to you through your journaling.

lifehouse international church praise
Believe the word of God and let your heart sing!

Psalm 45:1 NIV
[1] My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.
Colossians 3:16 NLT
[16] Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.

Lets keep focused on Jesus, and his promises, and keep singing a song of praise to God in our hearts. Lets be a light in Hong Kong!
